A spotlight on some of our principal makers.

  • Deep South Brewing Co.

Australia’s southernmost city can be a cold place at times but there’s never a bad moment to be in Hobart. The Tasmanian capital is surrounded by natural beauty, cultural experiences, and food and drink encounters that aren’t just embraced locally but worthy of taking a trip across the Bass Strait.

In 2021, Deep South Brewing Co added to that rich tapestry, adding a new hangout for locals and creating an enticing beer destination for anyone travelling from afar. Its opening added to an already robust North Hobart brewing scene but, far from being the newest kid on the block, it was brought to life by some very experienced hands.

  • Strelley Farm

Strelley Farm Estate is located in the heart of Tasmania’s Coal River Valley wine region and is connected to the historical town of Richmond by the oldest bridge in Australia, the Richmond Bridge.

Perfumed aromas redolent of ripe raspberry and red cherry are nuanced by brooding dark plum and subtle oak spice. The palate is supple and lithe with upfront appeal and a long, concentrated fruit core framed by silky tannins and bright acidity to finish.

  • Furneaux Distillery

The rugged isolation and necessary self sufficiency of life on Flinders Island sparks intense connections between the people and the land they are on. Although not without its challenges, it’s the perfect place to create something that requires such dedication and personality as whisky.

After a trip to Islay in the Southern Hebrides, our founders Damien Newton-Brown and Howard McCorkell realised that on Flinders Island we also have the ideal environmental characteristics that have traditionally made for excellent whisky production; namely naturally occurring peat, pristine water sources and a strong maritime climate.
